The Difference Between OBD1 and OBD2
OBD is the abbreviation of On-Board Diagnostics in English. This system is mainly to monitor the operating conditions of the car's engine, and a warning will be issued when the exhaust gas exceeds the limit during operation. When the system fails, the fault (ML) light or the Check Engine (Check Engine) warning light is on, and the powertrain control module (PCM) stores the fault information in the memory, and the fault code can be read from the PCM through a certain program. The maintenance personnel can quickly and accurately determine the nature and location of the fault according to the prompt of the fault code.
OBD1 is applied to cars manufactured in California to control vehicle emissions in the state, detect engine problems, and report fault codes. However, OBD1 is a standard in California. Many General Motors have problems, but they cannot be tested. OBD-1 is not standardized among manufacturers.
OBD2 became a national standard in the United States in 1996, and fault codes have also been standardized. Unlike OBD1, cars equipped with OBD2 support the same types of scanners. As onboard computers become more and more complex, automakers are adding more and more functions to their cars’ OBD2 systems. You can use the OBD2 scanner to view real-time diagnostic data.
OBD2 detection equipment cannot directly read car data, and a bridge is needed to connect with the car. That is the OBD2 harness connector. Shenzhen Yeahui Electronics Co., Ltd. is a professional PVC molding wire harness factory with 13 years of experience in developing high-quality connectors and wire harnesses.
